4 Ways to Crush Stress Before it Crushes You

Lately, I’ve been working two jobs, going to school, and trying to grow this blog, and it has been exhausting. Trying to stay healthy, get my homework done, and reach my goals is starting to feel impossible. My stress levels are up the wazoo, and sometimes I feel like my head is going to explode. I started talking to my friends about it, and I realized they’re all pretty stressed lately, too. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that this time of year is probably really stressful for pretty much everyone. Soooo…this is going to happen for my entire life? I don’t know that I can handle that; I don’t think anyone should have to! Here are four ways we can combat this stress to make life a little more manageable, even enjoyable. 

Pick Up a Little

First of all, one of my major stresses is trying to get stuff done while the world around me is messy.  Between my car, my room, and our dining room, I feel like I’m literally surrounded by an unorganized mess. This does not help my sanity. This week, I’ve planned out a couple times to pick up my room and my car. I’m challenging you to do the same. (Unless you’re already one of those organized people who always have their room clean. ugh. 😉 )  Hopefully, this makes things at least appear a little less stressful for us.

Map it Out

You know when you have a million things to do, and it feels like they’re all swimming around in your head? Get them out of there!! Whatever your method may be, planner/calendar/list, try to plan out what all needs to be done, and when you can do it. It helps to at least have everything down on a piece of paper, so you can let it go from your mind. It also feels good to cross things out after you achieve them. 🙂

Schedule Breaks

Girlfriend, you are going to need a break. I don’t care what anyone says- a week without a glass of wine is a week wasted. If you want to be a true girl boss, you’re going to have to give yourself a little something in return. Schedule a night for dinner with your friends, leave an hour before bed to binge on your favorite Netflix show, or maybe just take a 20 minute break from homework to stare at the wall. Whatever it is you need to lessen the stress, give it to yourself. You’ll burn out way too quickly if it’s all work and no play.

Finally,  Let  the  Rest  Go

What’s left? What couldn’t you fit in? Whatever it is- let it go. If it’s not physically possible to get done, or even if you just can’t muster it, let it go. If you don’t, it’ll certainly drive you crazy. We are only human. We can only do so much. If you’re like me, and you struggle with overthinking, consider whether this will even matter in one month? In 6 months? In a year? Probably not. Do as much as you possibly can, and let the rest go. If it was THAT important, you would’ve done it. Take a deep breath, celebrate what you did accomplish, and let the rest go.

    I absolutely loved this post! A great reminder as I start this super busy week! I especially loved your last two points: Schedule breaks and let the rest go. Those are both so important! I often find myself rushing to finish every last thing on my agenda and I really need to focus on giving myself a little Me Time.
    I really enjoyed reading this post!
