My Evergrowing Bucket List

Last night at a coffee shop (when we were supposed to be studying…) a close friend and I got into a discussion about goal setting. Both of us feel strongly about continuous self-improvement, and we love talking about our current goals. She started telling me about this old list of life goals she made a long time go, and it really made me wonder what my life goals are. I always make weekly and monthly goals, but I don’t think I’ve ever really considered life goals. I recently heard some advice I’ve been pondering: rather than doing things because you have to do them, do things because of who you want to be. With all that, I decided to make a list of goals I have for life that’ll help me become who I want to be. i.e. A list of things I’d like to do before I kick the bucket-

My Bucket List

      • Run a 5K (I currently can’t even run a mile, so this is out there…)
      • Publish some kind of a book
      • Learn the basics of sign language, so I can communicate with those who cannot hear/speak
      • Learn to make the perfect crème brûlée
      • Move somewhere brand new
      • Touch the soil on every continent
      • Get my graduate degree (I’m taking a year off after undergrad- this is to ensure I go back for grad school)
      • Ride in a hot air balloon
      • Have my IRA sturdy by 24
      • Ride camels in the sand dunes of Morocco
      • Never listen to anyone who tells me I can’t do something
      • Re-learn how to play the piano so I can play Für Elise, Canon in D, and Christmas songs
      • Donate rather than sell
      • Have my dream Christmas tree
      • Raise some hardworking, kind, strong babies
      • Marry a hardworking, patient, intelligent, witty, strong yet gentle man
      • Create a beautiful, cozy home where all are welcome
      • See the Northern Lights
      • Drink coffee and journal in Paris
      • Change someone’s life for the better
      • Always remain strong, yet kind

 

Why Bother?

I’ve always had this fear that one day I’ll be dying, and I’ll realize that I barely lived. Having lists like these help me remember to take chances, to dive headfirst into what I fear the most. Even if I don’t accomplish all of these things, I will have had dreams. What’s the point of living if you never desire to grow? I don’t want to walk. I want to run. I want to always feel the sun on my face.

This list will grow and grow, but as of now, this is all I can think of. I challenge you guys to also sit down and try to make a bucket list. Make a list of goals you have in life. What’re you striving for? Who do you want to be?

    I love this!! May have to make one myself. It’s not something you think about very often so thank you for the reminder to have hopes that seem so crazy and out there but who knows, they could all be achieved.
